How to become a member

Membership of the Institute is governed by the Institute of Chartered Loss Control and Private Security Management Act [Chapter 27:23]. Members are registered in two professional categories:

  • Chartered Professional Loss Control Manager (CpLM)
  • Chartered Professional Security Manager (CpSM)

Registration confers the legal right to use the respective post-nominal designation. All application and registration processes are administered in accordance with the Institute of Chartered Loss Control and Private Security Management (Registration) Regulations, 2026, ensuring compliance, transparency, and adherence to prescribed professional standards.

Membership Categories

Individual Membership is established in accordance with the provisions of the Institute and Chartered Loss Control and Private Security Management Act, and is designed for security and loss control professionals at every stage of their career progression. This category provides statutory recognition and formal registration for qualified practitioners who meet the prescribed academic, professional, and ethical standards of the Institute. Registration affirms competence, integrity, and commitment to upholding the highest standards of professional practice within the security and loss control sector as well as those in related fields of crime and loss prevention occupations (including cyber security, digital, physical and forensic investigation; debt collection, risk management, loss assessment, loss control and disaster and emergency management).

Through Individual Membership, practitioners align themselves with a recognised statutory body committed to safeguarding professional standards, promoting ethical conduct, and advancing excellence within the industry. Articled Internship

This is for graduates beginning their professional career in loss control private security management under a structured training and industry focused program under qualified professionals. The graduates are registered under the Institute of Chartered Loss Control and Private Security Management (Registration) Regulations, 2026. Qualifying graduates are those who holding either an undergraduate degree of level 7 of the Zimbabwe National Qualification Framework (ZNQF) or Advanced Diploma whichh is approved to be at least Zimbabwe National Qualification Framework (ZNQF) level 6, in the fields of crime and loss prevention occupations (including cyber security, digital, physical and forensic investigation; debt collection, risk management, loss assessment, loss control and disaster and emergency Management.

Eligibility:

This category applies to experienced practitioners actively engaged in the field who seek statutory registration in accordance with the Institute of Chartered Loss Control and Private Security Management Act [Chapter 27:23]. Eligible professionals may be registered as Chartered Professional Loss Control Manager (CpLM) or Chartered Professional Security Manager (CpSM). Registration confers legal recognition under the Institute of Chartered Loss Control and Private Security Management (Registration) Regulations, 2026, and entitles members to use the respective post‑nominal designations CpLM or CpSM as evidence of their chartered professional status.

What are the eligibility requirements for membership?

Eligibility varies by tier. Student members must be enrolled in a relevant program. Associate members need basic qualifications and some industry experience. How long does the application process take?

The typical application process takes 2-3 weeks from submission to approval. This includes application review (5-7 days), reference verification (3-5 days), and final approval (2-3 days). You'll be kept informed throughout the process.

Can I upgrade my membership tier later?

Yes, you can apply to upgrade your membership as you gain more experience and qualifications. Upgrades require meeting the criteria for the higher tier and submitting updated documentation. The membership committee reviews upgrade applications on a case-by-case basis.

What CPD requirements do I need to maintain?

Members are required to complete a minimum of 30 CPD points annually. This can be achieved through attending workshops, conferences, online courses, publishing research, or participating in professional activities. Our CPD tracking tool helps you monitor your progress.

Is international membership available?

Absolutely! While ICLPSM is based in Zimbabwe, we welcome members from across Africa and internationally. Our online resources and virtual events ensure all members can fully participate regardless of location.

What payment methods are accepted?
